What hexagram 4 means
Méng is youthful inexperience: a spring at the foot of a mountain that doesn't yet know where to flow. It is a hexagram about learning, and about how to teach. The teacher does not chase the student; the student must come sincerely and not ask the same question over and over.

The two trigrams
The lower trigram, Water 坎 (Kǎn), stands for your inner state and the root of the situation. The upper trigram, Mountain 艮 (Gèn), stands for the outer circumstances. In element terms this is Earth over Water. Water is the trigram of Kua 1 and Mountain is the trigram of Kua 8.
