What hexagram 8 means
Bǐ shows water over the earth: water flows together naturally. It is about joining the right group or person, and about being the kind of centre others want to gather around. The traditional text advises asking yourself whether you have the steadiness to hold people together, and not arriving too late.

The two trigrams
The lower trigram, Earth 坤 (Kūn), stands for your inner state and the root of the situation. The upper trigram, Water 坎 (Kǎn), stands for the outer circumstances. In element terms this is Water over Earth. Earth is the trigram of Kua 2 and Water is the trigram of Kua 1.
